Suttons Bay is situated on Grand Traverse Bay, 3.5 miles from the geographical center of Leelanau County. It is 12 miles south of Northport, 9 miles southeast of Leland, and 16 miles north of Traverse City.

About the School District Suttons Bay Public Schools is a Class C, K-12 school with 1092 students. The district covers 65 square miles and serves Eastern Leelanau County.
Historical Sketch Suttons Bay's first industry was cutting cordwood for steamships. As lumbering declined, cherry farming and tourism became prominent industries. When the railroad went through Traverse City to Northport in 1902, Suttons Bay became a regular stop.
